I'm fundraising for ADRA's Race Around Australia

Join me in making a difference for Aussies in need.

Right now, the cost-of-living crisis is forcing many Australians to make impossible choices – like having to choose between buying food or medication.

This September, I’m joining ADRA’s Race Around Australia, raising funds to provide food, essential items, and community to Aussies doing it tough.

Your support can make a real difference. Just $10 can provide a hot meal, and a gift of $50 can provide a food hamper for a family. Every donation helps ease the pressure so families can afford other essentials.

HOORAY !!! Today I reached my goal of 120 km.

Twenty second day - 28 September

Monday 28th Sep
Good Evening Friends
Start time 12.53 and Finish 2.30 pm
Walked from Bluff Carpark to Mersey Lighthouse and return. Then headed to the Harbour Master Cafe in the CBD of Devonport and return to carpark. Total of 6 km today.

Well this is it !!! Only 2 days left to walk and fundraise. The weather was cool and then turned hot before I even got close to the carpark. There were many people out and about. Let's see what tomorrow brings. I should reach 120 km tomorrow and if it doesn't rain on Wednesday, I will do a few extra km.
Thank you for your support and cheering on ADRA Walkers.
Shalom
Heidi

Twenty first day - 27 September

Sunday 27th Sep
Hello Friends
Start time was 11.19 am and Finish time was 13.07 pm
Walked from Axeman's Hall carpark along Gilbert street shops through Teddy Sheean Walk, then following train through Thompson Park, back to Axeman's Hall of Fame. Then did Pig Island and a 3 km return trip along River road, back to Axeman's Hall of Fame carpark. The total walked today was 9 km.
I was only planning to do 8 km today but the weather was great to keep going. I did a video call with my mother to share the walk with her today. It is wonderful to be in the moment and have these memories to look back on.
I am also proud of the Devonport Team who gave so much of their time to support ADRA.  2 days to go for me as Wednesday looks like it might rain.
Another update from me tomorrow.  Heidi

Twentieth day - 25 September

Friday 25th Sep
Good afternoon Everyone
Start time 12.15 to 14.30 pm
Don River Railway to Coles Beach then to Don Heads and returned to Don River Railway across Sawdust Bridge. 10 km total walk.

What an incredible day. The day started with rain and a heavy cloud cover. By 11 am the Sun came out. So I started my walk later than I had planned but it worked out great. Not too many people were out today because there was still a cool breeze hanging around. However by 1 pm the wind eased off and it did get rather warm.
I ended up talking to my mother for the last 4 km, which made the walk go rather quick getting back to the car.
What I enjoyed most about today is that I was able to reflect on God's creation. See you again in Sunday as I plan to finish on Tuesday because of bad weather coming to Devonport on Wednesday. Almost there now. Heidi

Nineteenth day - 24 September

Friday 25th Sep
Good Evening Team and Readers
Start time 9.55 and finish time 11.05 am

Today we (Kevin and I) walked with the East Devonport Neighbourhood House walking Group, starting at Coles Beach Carpark and heading towards Splash Aquatic Centre. The return trip was 5 km, on a beautiful Thursday morning. Afterwards a few people had bought a morning tea to share. It was a great way to get to know each other. I'm looking forward to walking with this group again next week.
I had planned on doing another short walk later in the day but unfortunately I had housework and office duties and time was a bit short. Never mind I will make up for it tomorrow. Cheers from Heidi

Eighteenth day - 23 September

Wednesday 23rd Sep
Good evening Friends
Start time was 10.55 am and finish time was 12.55 pm
Edward Teddy Sheean walk through to Swift Ave, Latrobe
9 km return

Today was great weather again for a longer walk. I started the walk at a leisurely pace and slowly built it up to a fast paced walk. Lots of people out and about again. I was happy to do another 9 km and feel a little bit sore but not too bad. Feet are getting better and used to walking for longer stretches.
Earnt my cup of coffee that my husband made for me when I got back home. Cheers from Heidi

Seventeenth day - 22 September

Wednesday 23rd Sep
Hello Friends
Start time was 3.36 pm and finish time was 4.58 pm
Wheeler Street (near Spirit of Tasmania Terminal) to Pardoe Beach, 6 km return.

Today was a great day for walking as we had warmer weather and a lovely sea breeze. Many people were out and about and even saw some people from the local walking group, that I am just getting to know. My legs were a bit slow moving today so I pushed myself harder to a fast paced walk. It actually worked to get me moving faster. I'm enjoying the momentum to get to the finish line next Wednesday. Cheers from Heidi

Sixteenth day - 21 September

Monday 21st Sep
Hi Everyone
NO walking today. I was not feeling well and because of the cooler weather I decided to give myself one more day of rest. I plan to do two more big walks during this week and finishing off with shorter walks next week. Here is hoping that the weather will improve so we can all finish the ARAA with a big smile on our faces.
Heidi

Fifteenth day - 18 September

Friday 18th Sep
Hello Everyone
Start time 10.25 am and Finish time 11.45 am
Coles Beach Carpark to Splash Aquatic Centre along the Devonport Cycling and Walking Track. First part was on the sealed section and return trip was on the Bush track.

Sunny weather with slight breeze but later to into a gale wind on our return journey. I managed to get a short video of the Diesel train running today, from the Don River Railway.
It was great to see people out and about today, walking, on skate boards, walking their dogs, etc.
My husband (Kevin) is a real trooper. He gave me lots of encouragement and cheered me on, although he was very tired himself today.
Well now it is my rest time over the weekend. So next post will be next Monday afternoon. Stay safe and enjoy your weekend. Heidi

Fourteenth day - 17 September

Thursday 17th Sep
Good evening Supporters, Friends and Church family
Start time 10.00 am and finish at 11.00 am
Start time 12.44 pm and finish at 13.34 pm

East Devonport Heritage walking track from Tarleton Road to Pardoe Esplanade was my first walk with the East Devonport Community House walking group. Walked approximately 2 km return.
I had a coffee with a new friend and it was a delight to catch up with her.
Second walk was from Savu Saunas at the Mersey Bluff to Dannebrog Cafe past the Cenotaph. This trip was 4 km return.
Beautiful weather once again. I spoke to mother and showed her the scenery which made her day.
I'm tired and need to go to bed as I have another 5 km walked planned tomorrow before having the weekend off.
I am looking forward to another update tomorrow. Heidi

Thirteenth day - 16 September

Wednesday 16th Sep
Surprise Everyone
Start time 8.15 am and finish time 9.09 am
Start time 10.01 am and finish time11.35 am

Before Breakfast we walked from Marion Storm Cafe to CBD Devonport.
After breakfast I walked from Coles Beach carpark to Kelsie Tier Mountain bike Trail entrance.

Today was a bit of a split in my walking routine, because my Nissan went in for an oil change early in the morning. Therefore my husband and I went out for breakfast between the walks. That way he did not have to travel too many times back and forth from home.
I was not expecting the walk in this new area to be so enjoyable. The weather was great again, lot's of people out and about, plus I saw the Don River trains running. I managed to get a couple of videos and nice photos of this particular area of Don. On the way home I finally walked at the edge of an old cemetery and did not realise how big it actually was when we just drive past it most days of the week.
Today's walk was a 9 km walk and that is exciting for me. I reached my midway point at 59 km. That means I will reach my set goal of 120 km easily by 30 September.
Tomorrow I am walking with the East Devonport Community House Walking group and will give you another update then.
Good evening from Heidi

Twelve Day - 15 Sept

Tuesday 15th Sep
Hi Friends and Walkers
Start time was 3.20 pm and finish time was 4.30 pm
Walked from Waterfront Cafe at Quoiba to Devonport Novotel Hotel, return.

Today the weather had dropped to 10c and cool winter breeze with Sunshine and short bursts of rain. My husband (Kevin) and my friend (Tizian) joined in the 6 km return walk. It certainly is a great way to get to know each other. Unfortunately Tizian's husband (Gary) had sciatica and leg issue so he couldn't join us. But we are hopeful that he can join the walk soon.
My next update hopefully tomorrow. Heidi

Updated Walking Calendar 14 September

Monday 14th Sep
Updated Walking Calendar for this week. This is our half point week. Now I start the serious fundraising for the rest of the month. Let's see how much money we can raise to help those in need.

Eleventh Day - 14 September

Monday 14th Sep
Hi Everyone

No walking today due to the Windy Weather in Devonport. I was planning a shorter walk like 4 km but the weather was just not great today.
I'm planning a 6 km walk with friends, starting at Quoiba and going into Spreyton or Devonport. I'll let my friends decide.
I look forward to posting an update tomorrow, with lots of photos.
Heidi

Tenth day - 13 September

Sunday 13th Sep
Good Evening wonderful Supporters and donation Givers
Start time was 11.27am and finish time was 13.07 (1.07) pm
Mersey Bluff playground carpark to Mersey Bluff Light House and then to Pioneer Marina Park, return

Today was an overcast day with a very slight breeze. I wasn't supposed to be walking today but I am a little bit behind in my km target.
There were many people out today in Devonport. I mostly spent my time talking with my mother for the first half of the 8 km trip before heading back to the car. I met an acquaintance from another group that meet at our church and we were both very surprised to see each other.
I didn't realize, that once again, being distracted would lead to me walking further and faster. Although I did have a side stitch in my right side for a little while, I soldiered on.
Looking forward to tomorrow and giving you my next update.
Heidi

Ninth day - 11 September

Friday 11th Sep
Hello on this beautiful Spring Day from Devonport
Start time 10.14 am and Finished 11.04 am
Don River Railway museum to Aquatic Centre and return.

Today was a shorter walk of only 3 km and it took only 50 minutes. Lots of chatting between Kevin, Amanda-Lee and Heidi (me). However I will make more kilometres on Sunday when I do a 6 km walk again. Enjoy your weekend and see you again soon. Heidi

Rest Days - 5 & 6 September

Thursday 10th Sep
I have Rest days on the weekend so my body can rebuild energy for the week. During the weekend I go to church and spend time with my family. Great time to catch up with Friends and things to do at home like gardening.

Eighth day - 10 September

Thursday 10th Sep
Hi wonderful amazing People
Start time 10am and Finish time 11 am
Marion Storm Cafe to the Spirit of the Sea statue and then to the Mersey Bluff Light House, return to Marion Storm Cafe.

I walked today with the East Devonport Community House walking group. Probably around 15 people in the group. They did quite a moderate pace walk. Spring weather was beautiful again too.
On our walk today, we saw Whales migrating across the Bass Strait, heading east and then down to the Antarctic for the summer. Unfortunately they were just out of range for our phone cameras to pick up.
After the walks (in different area each week) the group usually finish at a cafe nearby. I'm looking forward to walking with them again next week. Bye for now, Heidi

Seventh day - 9 September

Wednesday 9th Sep
Hi wonderful supporters
Start time was 10.11 am and Finish time was 12.07 pm
Walk was from Axeman's Hall, Latrobe through to Ambleside

In total I did 7 km today. Why ? do you ask. Because I overshot the mark. I missed stopping at a road sign that marked 3.1 km. This happened because I was talking to a new friend. She has decided to sponsor / make a donation to further encourage me and because she loves supporting good causes. She (personally) was a very active fundraiser in her younger days, but unfortunately she has other priorities now.
Today was another wonderful spring day in Latrobe (Tasmania). I must inform you that during the last 2 km I struggled to finish, because my feet suddenly cramped. So the walk towards the car was much slower. So I decided to call my 88 year old mother and she was terrific to keep me going. I actually forgot about my aching feet for a while. So until tomorrow, take care of yourself and have a wonderful evening. Shalom from Heidi

Sixth Day 8 September

Tuesday 8th Sep
I was unable to walk today because of unforeseen circumstances. Tomorrow we have rain forecast in the afternoon so I should be ok to walk in the morning. I'm looking forward to posting more photos soon. Heidi

Walking Calendar - updated 7 Sept

Monday 7th Sep
Updated Walking Calendar for the week starting 7 September

Fifth Day 7 September

Monday 7th Sep
Hi Everyone
Start time was 3.24 pm and finish time was 5.04 pm
Weather was just right. Sunny with just a slight breeze. I started my walk at the Waterfront Cafe located at Quoiba (east of Devonport) and went as far as Dannebrog Cafe located on the west side of Devonport CBD. Walked a total of 6 km on my own today. While I was walking on the return trip, I called a friend to have a chat with, (we haven't talked for a while).
The muscle strength in my legs is getting better but I have 2 blisters on my left foot. Totally bandaged and wearing 2 pairs of socks before putting my walking shoes on. It worked really well. Let's see how it goes tomorrow.
I am expecting more friends to join me this week. Looking forward to having more company. Great start to this week.

Fourth Day - 4 Sept

Friday 4th Sep
Start time was 10.15 am and finished at 11.26 am
Today on my walk, I had one of the Adra Cooking, Food and Literacy members with. It was great fun. We really got to know each other better. She was a real trooper and we kept up with each other for the 5 km duration. Beautiful sunny weather today, but still a bit windy. Now, I am having the weekend off to rest, and to prepare for more great walks next week. Enjoy your weekend and catch up again soon.

Third day - 3 September

Thursday 3rd Sep
Hello Walkers and Runners
Start time 10 am and finished 11.34 am
Today I achieved my 6 km walk from the Light house to the Harbour Master Cafe in Devonport CBD area. The walk to the cafe was easy, but the return trip to the Light house was a battle. I was walking against the 40 km wind, coming at me from the west. Once I got closer to the light house it became easier because it was a sheltered area, climbing up into coastal bushland. Mind you I was then going uphill but still it was a fantastic view from the Devonport Light house out into Bass Strait. Well 11 km done and 109 km to go before the end of September. Keep walking and smiling Team, great job today. I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow 10 am at Coles Beach carpark area.

Second day - 2 September (walk)

Wednesday 2nd Sep
Hi Everyone
We made it today. At 4:21 pm Kevin joined me on my first ARAA walk and finished at 5.39 pm. We did 5 km from Mersey Bluff to Devonport CBD and return. It was a chilli afternoon walk but surprisingly many people were out and about. Fantastic feeling to finally get started with the Adra fundraiser.
